I believe this topic may be covered some where else. Just to inlighten you, VZ has nice android phones and a few that come with the latest OS "icecream sandwige". The samsung Galaxy Nexis is one phone, the razer max and the droid 4 will be getting icecream sandwidge soon. So you have options, there not Iphone's but with android you have a lot of apps to play with.

A more low tech solution that does not require a data plan is the Samsung Haven or the Samsung Gusto 2. I haven't used the Gusto 2, but have heard most of the stuff on it is accessible.

I have the samsung haven and like every phone it has it's pros and cons, but I have more cons than pros so I'm going to tell you before you consider that phone.

1. When reading punctuation, it only reads the periods and asterics. It does not read the question mark, so if someone asks you a question, you sorta have to guess that it was a question if the message doesn't have "do or what."
2. It will not read long text messages. This is bad because the person will have to resend the the message shootened or you're pretty much stuck if there's no one there to read it to you. I believe it has a 160 character max. With some phones you receive messages from, it will put it into messages, but say from I phones, no...
3. The battery life is horrible! You will either have to turn it off or leave it plugged in all day. I believe the battery life is about 7 hours. Well, what would you do if you're traveling on a bus or something for that long?

Those were my 3 biggest problems, but other than all that, it's an okay phone. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a home body or something. If I were u, I would go with android without the data plan.

Just like the Iphone I doubt VZ will let someone have an android phone with out a data plan. I would get a cheep data plan and call it done if your a home body.

while I am not nocking windows moble it was good for its time but if your going to by a phone and its coming out of your pocket, why not buy a phone that will be supported by your carier? I am just saying, which is why I pointed the ariginal poster to android. Believe it or not despite all the roomers android is a viable accessible platform for those who are looking for something outside of IOS. Honestly I can put my butt on the line and said this with a factual statement. Gingerbred and icecream sandwidge are very accessible android platforms.

Do all the new Verizon phones carry Ice Cream Sandwich? Phones you will be able to pick up in stores? Or is this still one of those extra things you have to be in the know, to know about, and maybe get a phone that carries it.

yes the razer max and the samsung nexis both come with icecream sandwige preloaded on the device its self. As far as VZ's phones prereleased before icecream sandwidge and its time line to get icecream sandwidge that would bee a google search.

Also I am a t-mobile customer and know more about t-mobile's android phones then VZ, so sorry Leo if my answer was not a straight as you needed to be. If you were to ask me what phones come with icecream sandwidge out of the box on t-mobile I could at this time only give you one phone. Another phone you would have to flash the official samsung icecream sandwidge rom on it.
